Hughes hopeful as Shaqiri set for scan on hamstring injury

Stoke's first league win of the season was offset by an injury to their record signing but his manager is keeping his fingers crossed the forward will make a speed recovery
Mark Hughes is hopeful that a hamstring injury sustained by Xherdan Shaqiri in Stoke City's 2-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday is not serious.

The Swiss attacker, who joined Stoke for a club-record fee of £12m in August, pulled up with an apparent hamstring problem midway through the second half and was replaced by Ibrahim Afellay.

Mame Biram Diouf scored a late winner at the Britannia Stadium as the Potters recorded their first league win of the season and manager Hughes is optimistic his playmaker won't be out for too long.

"I haven't had an update yet," the Welshman told reporters. 'We'll settle him down and probably get a scan on Monday and see what the damage is.
