STAT PACK: Booed Giroud in France howler
Olivier Giroud felt the full force of France's supporters on Monday evening as the Arsenal striker was booed off in the 2-1 win over Serbia.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi scored twice in the first half to seal victory for Didier Deschamps' men while Giroud, who was picked to spearhead France's attack ahead of Karim Benzema, could do little to capitalise on the opportunities he was given.
Giroud has gone 189 minutes across four appearances without a goal in a France shirt and while his early effort was well kept out by Serbia's 19-year-old goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic, the Arsenal forward should have ended his barren run with his next chance.
Antoine Griezmann's delicately cushioned ball into Giroud's path was perfectly weighted but the 28-year-old, on the corner of the six-yard box, scuffed his shot wide.
That was one of the five attempts Giroud sent off target - and he only had six in the match before he was replaced by Benzema in the 62nd minute.
