Liverpool agree Borini sale to Sunderland

Sunderland have agreed a deal worth £7 million to sign out-of-favour Liverpool striker Fabio Borini, Goal understands.

Borini is due to travel to Wearside on Monday to undergo a medical, with the Black Cats increasingly confident they have seen off competition from Inter and Watford for his signature.

The 24-year-old spent the 2013-14 season on loan at the Stadium of Light and became a popular figure, scoring seven goals in 32 Premier League appearances to help Sunderland preserve their Premier League status.

Liverpool then accepted a formal bid from the Wearsiders to sign Borini in the summer of 2014, only for the Italian to turn down a permanent switch as he pledged to fight for a first-team place at Anfield.

But faced with the summer arrivals of Christian Benteke, Divock Origi and Danny Ings, Borini has accepted he has no long-term future at Liverpool and is ready to move elsewhere.
