Manchester City defender Jason Denayer's loan move to Galatasaray has stalled over the Turkish club's insistence on a right-to-buy option, and Marseille are hopeful of taking advantage.
Denayer
was in Istanbul on Monday to watch Gala's shock 2-1 defeat to
Osmanlispor from the stands and a move had appeared close to completion.
But
as well as offering £1.1 million as a loan fee, the 20-times Turkish
champions want to insert a clause which would allow them to purchase the
Belgian outright at any point during the agreement.
City,
however, believe the 20-year-old has a future at the club and have
refused the terms; they simply will not countenance such a clause and
the deal is on hold as a result.
Meanwhile, Denayer, who had been keen to study other options even after flying to
Turkey, was in Marseille on Tuesday and could instead move to the Stade
Velodrome.
Reports in France suggest the defender, who spent last
season on loan at Celtic, was at the the Ligue 1 club's training centre
to meet new coach Michel.
Denayer has found himself relegated to
fifth-choice centre-back at the Etihad Stadium in the last week after
Nicolas Otamendi arrived from Valencia in a £31.7m deal.
Argentina
international Otamendi will battle with Eliaquim Mangala and Vincent
Kompany for a starting berth, and should be in the squad for Saturday's
clash with Watford after sitting out the 2-0 victory at Everton due to a
work permit delay.
