Middlesbrough’s Albert Adomah has submitted a transfer request after informing the manager, Aitor Karanka, that he wants to leave the club.
The Ghana winger, 27, has fallen out with the Spaniard after being left out of the starting lineup in last weekend’s defeat to his former club Bristol City. Adomah did not feature in the 18-man squad who defeated Burton Albion in the second round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday after a meeting with club officials the previous day.
He submitted a formal transfer request on Thursday morning, although Karanka later denied this in his pre-match press conference and said that he expects Adomah to stay with the club after the end of the transfer window.
“The players will be unhappy if they are on the bench. I was unhappy when I wasn’t playing when I was a player,” he said.
“But they know the following week they could play. They can be on the bench one week and they can play the next.”
